Matt's Garage
США
Добавлен 8 авг 2016
Matt's Garage started out as way to keep my sanity when I had a bad job. Now I love my job, and it's just a passion to share my experience and antics in the world of truck and car restoration with this tiny little community I've built up over time.
11.5- E-Stopp Parking Brake Install
This project came to me with NO PARKING BRAKES. Not even cables to the rear wheels. So I did a fair amount of research and decided the E-Stopp was the easiest and cleanest way for me to make it work.
I wasn't sure how it would turn out but I'm really happy with it.

Toms Offroad 2024!!!
Просмотров 83814 дней назад
Guys, I finally had a chance to go to the Tom's event, in an actual Bronco! But there was a high cost to the trip. I did learn the Bronco inside and out and now I know what I need to change, upgrade, tweak. But one thing cannot be "changed" and it can only be fixed. Tune in to find out what happened.
11.4-EFI Fuel Tank
Просмотров 25721 день назад
Poppa Bear was a little gassy if you catch my drift. The in cab tank was never 100% tight s the cab just smelled like fuel everytime you opened the door. Plus the previous owner had pu in an external fuel pump which are loud and prone to failure. I decided to remedy this by installing the Speedway Motors EFI tank that comes with the pump, sender, filler neck and very nice pop up filler cap. No ...
11.3-Four Link & Coilovers for Poppa Bear (1950 Chevy)
Просмотров 22328 дней назад
The leaf sprinks under this 1950 Chevy were board-stiff. I wanted to spice it up a little for my dad so I elected this 4-Link Coilover kit from TCI. The only welding required is for the brackets that weld onto the axle. Other than that it is a bolt-in kit. It does take a fair bit of work to get it installed but if you are a moderaterly experienced mechanic, it shouldn't be a problem.
11.2-Project Poppa Bear in the shop!
Просмотров 235Месяц назад
I kinda really am liking this 1950 Chevy. It's fun to drive and people love it. For this series, I am naming the truck Poppa Bear. I came up with the name after I shot this episode, but it's because I've giving the truck to my dad when it's all done so she an my mom can cruise around in style. Plans are to: 1) Ditch the rear leafs for a modern 4 link with coilovers from TCI 2) Install an underb...

Just when I finished the Bronco, the Silverado's torque converter failed. Sucha an unwanted project but given the dealership pricing I decided to take it on myself. Come with me on the adventure.

This Bronco did not make it easy on me. To be fair I made it hard on myself. I made a critical error in my parts order and it cost me.

Hard top progress and are date codes legit?

Seeing a lot of your comments, I decided to go ahead and dig into the hardtop. Also, everybody likes the idea of white wheels. My issue is the tires on this thing were brand new when it was parked up. The problem is that was back in 2005. So should I run these brand new 20-year-old tires? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a new set ?

Thank you! Very helpful and you answered my questions about the Black Widow.
Consider getting rid of the shackles altogether and replacing them with leaf spring sliders.
Yes, the Bronco guys are watching.
Awesome I really appreciate you making it easy for this mature senior to enjoy the fruits of your labor.❤
Great video ! My '68 302 doesn't have roller lifters. What year motor?
Mine is a 90 I think. But don’t take my advice, I just did a road trip and the motor is consuming oil so I screwed something up
So I just wanted to make sure... The hinges are not replaced, the pins were replaced. Good video, but not hinges. Thank you though!
that was a lot of Colemans'! Looks like it was an adventure!
I put one in my 72 Bronco. I was able to use the original E-brake cable bracket on the underside of the tub. It was great to get rid of the foot pedal set up that's very hard to get to with a full roll cage. It's totally worth the money, and it wired into my Dakota Digital gauge, which has an E-brake idiot light 👍👍
my question is why does it make sound at all...........?
Thank you for sharing
I am doing an E-Stop as theft deterrent on my bronco. Discreet/ hidden location for the actuator. My E-Stopp is an older model - no speaker on it. since it was purchased as project and no E brake pedal was included, the E-stopp seemed like a better purchase than the new e-brake pedal!
"the steering wheel has personal space issues" HAHA!!!
Great video and content!!!!
I'm curious if you had an alignment done before your trip? I just finished up a total restoration on a 72, and getting it aligned is the last thing I need to do. Mine drives a bit squirrely as well.
I bought the alignment plates and set the toe-in to 1/4”. That’s about the only thing you can align without getting into the knuckles.
@MattsGarage Right on, thanks for the reply. I set mine at 1/4" and it was scary squirrely on 37's, so I adjusted it down to a 1/8" and it helped out greatly. I still plan on taking it in for an actual alignment.
I remember an old motor sergeant telling me that the only way to tell what a vehicle needs is to drive it!!! I am glad you made it home safely and sorry you found the issues you did. Take a breather and dig back in! I am definitely looking forward to seeing how you tackle these issues. I have in the back of my mind the idea of converting my Bronco to a manual transmission if my rebuild C4 ever gives up tue ghost, so I will be paying close attention to what you do with your transmission. Thanks for all you do! Good luck!
Thanks Brian. My road trip seems like a grocery run compared to what you did. I'm for sure going to take a break, but only because I have other things to finish that are on my lift!
Loved video, I think your Bronco, just wanted another season on Matt’s Garage. Can’t wait
@@matthutchinson3139 thanks Matt!
Never heard of setting timing with vacuum advance hooked up. What rpm does your 32deg total advance come in. when does the vacuum advance come . Timing is the main culprit for carb problems.
I’ll take your old seats if you decide to selll them, I think they will fit a 76?

Great Video, I enjoyed it even though nothing got built! Thanks for sharing your honest opinion and the A-Ha moment, although I already have an automatic transmission, because modernization is part of my planned build. I don't love the look of the Tom's seats, but understand the function outweighing the form on that. I am thinking about trying to find a modern seat, and shave the headrest - which will likely also require new upholstery. I have NOS Beard off-road seats for my '74, but I don't look their look/ style either. I think I saw a video with someone using buckets seats out of Honda Civic. Your bronco looks awesome, the uncut look is very stylish. Glad the foreshadowing didn't result in your being stranded!
@@Halfwheelhell thank you! I agree the look of the seats doesn’t 100% match the vibe but, to your point, I can make the new seats look old someday.. I can’t make the old seats feel new.
Glad you made it back home in one piece. Was great to see you and hang out my friend. P.S. hat looks good 😉
Thank’s Matt, always informative and entertaining.
I was my brothers arm length away from dying at lake of the woods as a kid. We were up there in the snow and I jump on the ice and went straight through, luckily he was able to reach me and pulled me out.
Whoa!!
I love the older bronco. I will have one one day
Do you think you may make it to the Super celebration in TN sometime?
I'm actually going to be in Pigeon Forge next week. I'd love to make it back out to Super Cel but I'd need a lot more tweaking on this bronco before I would brave that drive.
@@MattsGarage I started towing mine from Florida for the same reason. I broke down in Macon GA one year and did not make it to the event. Hopefully we will cross paths someday, I would love to see your Bronco
I remember you saying the bronco was done:)
Love seeing this Bronco get on the road and the honest updates. You've done an amazing job with it!
Great to see the bronco on the road, wish I could’ve gone to the event this year, looks like you had good time there, maybe I’ll get to go next year
@@nickefgen9219 thanks Nic! Hopefully you’ve been able to get a little progress in on yours.
@@MattsGarage yeah I’ve not made any progress on mine yet
That sounds like a fun trip for a major shakedown cruise. Sorry to hear about the oil consumption problem, but I'm glad you have figured out the clutch problem. Now just to find where the oil is going. I'm glad you found some really comfortable seats. It should make driving your bronco so much more fun. You didn't mention it, so I'll ask - were you able to pick up a soft top? I'm looking forward to more Bronco content, but also am enjoying watching Papa Bear come along. Keep up the good work!!
@@ronbelldvm thanks Ron. I actually bought and then returned a scratch n’ dent soft top. I don’t like how the rampage tops require drilling into both the tailgate and the quarter panel so I passed on that.
Was having the same issues with mounting brackets man what a joke and now I know Iv got to fabe up the brackets thanks for the video was a big help in thinking I was crazy
That's why I make these videos. I'm happy to have helped!
Can you turn the tank 180° so that the filler is more toward the rear?
Aboslutely. Was just trying to keep the fuel lines short and keep them on the driver side. But in retrospect it was probabaly better to have it back. I really don't think it's going to be a big deal though.
Thank you for sharing, always informative.
Looks great! A lot more parts than I knew about.
Nice job, Matt. Looking forward to the next episode.
I have all my parts together to do a leaf spring swap on my CJ and wanted info on shackle angle. Best I could find so far was avoid inverting. This helps a lot. Thanks.
Thanks. Good luck with the build.
That's the ideal color for a urine sample. Good job staying hydrated!
This was peaceful to watch. Something about watching engine rebuilds step by step helps me understand more about em and gets me relaxed. Plz make more sir. Currently looking at carberated cars to buy on Facebook
It's never as simple as it seems like it will be. Good job, Matt. Looking forward to seeing how it rides, too.
Where is episode2? I can’t find it! Thanks man. Super helpful.
pretty sure you can preload those struts/ coilovers. I see can see longer coilovers in the future! or some pavement scraping!
The brackets on the axle actually have three slots. I chose the middle slot but if I need a little more I can put it on the higher notch.
Great video
At it again, I enjoyed the episode
Hi Matt does replacing leaf spring with coil spring reduce the load capacity of the truck. Looks nice. ❤
it will definitely sag quicker.
Yes dad, it does, but this truck stopped being a work truck a long time ago! It’ll still be able to haul anything normal from the hardware store and stuff. But I wouldn’t put a pallet of fertilizer in it.
looks like I'm ordering a clutch! thanks a ton Matt
Excellent work. Pretty fast welding with that MIG torch!
Thanks! Yeah that’s the gilligan’s island setting on the welder
Thank you for sharing your expertise.
@@RatelLaw you are welcome as always!
